Pastor Chappell challenged us tonight in our visit with the Pastor portion of our evening service to make summertime a holy time. I was challenged and encouraged by the lesson and wanted to pass it along.
Pastor challenged us to live a sanctified life this summer. The word “sanctified” means “to set apart.” We see this instruction given in 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4, “For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;”
God desires for our lives to be clean and to bring Him honor at all times, even in the summer months.
To make summertime a holy time we must first practice the presence of Jesus Christ. Realizing He is always with us and and committing to live life with that conviction. This will certainly influence everything we do as we consider we are doing it with Christ.
To make summertime a holy time we must also walk in the Spirit. We are reminded of the promise given in Galatians 5:16, “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” What a tremendous promise if we will just walk in the Spirit every day.
To make summertime a holy time we must walk in the Word of God. I love the Bible and I am challenged by Psalm 119:11, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” Summer is a great time to spend more time in God’s Word.
I want to make my summer a holy time and was challenged by this lesson. I pray it is a blessing to you as well!
